About the Program 

The ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ of ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ at Lafayette’s Study Abroad in Greece program offers ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs an unforgettable opportunity to experience one of the world’s most historic and culturally rich destinations. Based in Thessaloniki, Athens, and surrounding regions, the program blends academic learning with immersive cultural exploration.

ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs will gain firsthand insight into Greece’s traditions, from its world-renowned cuisine and hospitality industry to its ancient archaeological sites and living cultural heritage. Visits to iconic landmarks such as the Acropolis, Meteora, and Delphi will be complemented by experiences in local markets, community gatherings, and interactive workshops.

More than just classroom learning, this program connects you directly with Greek history, culture, and people—helping you understand how the past and present come together in shaping a nation that continues to inspire the world.

By enrolling in these courses, you will become aware of a range of today’s pressing global issues, which may include health, climate action, innovation, or cultural preservation.

Greece is a country where ancient history and modern life intertwine seamlessly. Known as the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, and the Olympic Games, Greece offers a living classroom filled with world-famous landmarks, archaeological treasures, and vibrant cultural traditions.

Beyond its history, Greece is celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes—from the mountains of Meteora and the ruins of Delphi to the bustling streets of Athens and the coastal beauty of the Aegean Sea. Its cuisine, festivals, and traditions reflect a deep connection to community, family, and the natural environment.

As a modern European nation, Greece balances tradition with innovation, making it an ideal setting to explore global themes of sustainability, cultural heritage, and tourism.

Program Requirements

The program cost is $TBD, plus ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ fees of $TBD, totaling $240. A late fee of $100 will be added to your program cost after December 16. Program cost includes tuition for 6 credit hours, lodging, insurance, museums, entrance fees, field trips, and public transportation passes. View Payment Policies & Instructions.

Airfare is not included in the program cost and must be purchased by the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ. Other personal expenses include passport and visa costs, eating out, shopping, and entertainment.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: This goal promotes sustainable practices in how we produce and consume resources. By studying Greece’s culinary traditions and sustainable approaches to tourism, this course highlights how food culture can balance heritage, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Explore the flavors and traditions of Greek culture through the lens of food tourism! In this course, you’ll experience Greece’s rich culinary heritage firsthand—visiting local markets, dining in restaurants, exploring agritourism sites, and participating in an authentic cooking class. Along the way, you’ll meet chefs and food producers while learning about the country’s sustainable approaches to cuisine and hospitality. Together, we’ll examine how Greek food culture is evolving in a climate-conscious world and how tourism, tradition, and innovation intersect at the table.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: This goal focuses on protecting cultural and natural heritage while fostering sustainable urban and community development. Through visits to historic sites and engagement with local communities, this course examines how Greece preserves its cultural treasures for future generations while maintaining vibrant daily life.

Explore Greece’s rich history and culture firsthand! Visit Thessaloniki, the country’s cultural capital, to experience daily life and local traditions. Discover world-renowned sites like the Acropolis Museum in Athens and the UNESCO World Heritage landscapes of Kalampaka and Meteora. In Delphi and Vergina, dive into archaeological efforts and explore ancient Greek society, learning about the challenges of preserving historical treasures for future generations. Along the way, engage with local community members who are dedicated to protecting and sharing Greece’s remarkable cultural heritage.
