A ������ο��Ƶ who is a non-U.S. citizen may be entitled to resident classification if the ������ο��Ƶ has been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence (refugee, person who is married to a U.S. citizen, "temporary" or amnesty alien, etc.). This granting of resident status for fee purposes shall be in accordance with all applicable laws of the U.S. and relative requirements of the System’s ������ο��Ƶ Residence Regulations.

������ο��Ƶs and their dependents (INS approval) present in the United Stated under terms of any one of the following visa classifications:

• E – Treaty trader or investor
• G – Representative of international organization
• H-1B – Temporary worker in a specialty occupation (H-1A and H-4 may also apply to qualify for exemption)
• I – Foreign information media representative
• K – Fiancee (residency approved with the proof of marriage to U.S. citizen)L – Intra-company transferee/foreign employer

who demonstrate a ������ο��Ƶ domicile for at least one full year (and meet System Regulations) prior to the first day of class of the beginning of the semester will be eligible for an exemption of the nonresident fees while holding such a visa.

������ο��Ƶs holding the following visa classification:

• Visa Category A – Government officials

will be immediately eligible for an exemption of the nonresident fees while holding such a visa

������ο��Ƶs holding the following visa classification:

• B – Visitor for business/pleasure
• C – In transit
• D – Crewman
• F – Academic ������ο��Ƶ
• H – Temporary worker
• J – Exchange visitor
• M – Vocational/non-academic ������ο��Ƶ

are not eligible to establish ������ο��Ƶ domicile nor be exempted for nonresident fees unless otherwise permitted by law, by System policy or other regulations.

There are only two ways an international ������ο��Ƶ can qualify for waiver of non-resident tuition:

1. A ������ο��Ƶ may be declared a resident if either parent is a graduate of the ������ο��Ƶ of ������ο��Ƶ at Lafayette (Refer to the Legacy section-Condition 3)
    
2. A ������ο��Ƶ who has been lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence and has proof of such status shall be in possession of his/her Form I-551 or I-151 Alien Registration Receipt Card or passport officially stamped “approved as resident alien” and who has established residence per ������ο��Ƶ Resident, Spouse of ������ο��Ƶ Resident, or Dependent Child of ������ο��Ƶ Resident (refer to the Conditions on Determining Residency page).

Processing Timeline

Requests that are received and processed before census day are made effective for the current semester. Requests received and processed after census day would be made effective for the following semester.
