COVID-19 Update
Dear ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs, faculty and staff members,
Earlier this week, a team of ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ personnel met to discuss COVID-19, or coronavirus, and to outline how UL Lafayette would respond should it affect our community.
It’s important to note that there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ.
Nevertheless, because the health and safety of our ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs, faculty and staff remains the paramount concern of the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ, preparation for any eventuality is key.
In the coming days, you may receive notices from various campus departments and units concerning COVID-19. Let me urge you to pay attention to ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ email, official social media accounts and this page on the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ’s website for these important messages.
This health situation is ever-changing, so it’s essential you stay informed.
The ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ is working closely with the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ Office of Public Health to get essential information to the campus community as quickly as possible. We’re also monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. State Department and will provide updates as needed.
It’s important to remember that it’s also flu season. Symptoms of the flu mirror those of COVID-19, and ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ has some of the highest flu rates in the country.
To protect yourself and others from the flu and other respiratory diseases, members of the campus community:
- Should seek immediate medical attention if they are experiencing fever, cough or having difficulty breathing.
- Should not attend classes, work or ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ events if they are ill. They should stay home except when seeking medical care and should avoid contact with others.
- Should cover their mouths or noses with a tissue or their shirtsleeves – not their hands – when coughing or sneezing.
- Should wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Basic health practices – combined with awareness of the latest information and guidance regarding COVID-19 – will ensure the continued wellbeing of the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joseph Savoie
President
